Liverpool star Curtis Jones hit by 'devastating new blow' - pundit
Curtis Jones could have missed a golden opportunity to establish himself as a regular Liverpool starter, according to Paddy Kenny.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Premier League goalkeeper explained how the 21-year-old midfielder will be “devastated” how injury has restricted his availability this season.
He said the Anfield academy product has slipped behind fellow young guns Harvey Elliott and Fabio Carvalho in the pecking order and will have to join the back of the midfield queue when he returns.
Jurgen Klopp has revealed Jones is suffering from a lower leg injury after aggravating a tibia problem that kept him out of the start of the season.
He has not played since appearing as a late sub in the Community Shield win over Man City on 30 July, with his only Premier League squad appearance being for the home win over Newcastle United.
“The latest injury is a devastating new blow for Curtis Jones,” Kenny told Football Insider. “He will know that he could have missed a golden opportunity to establish himself.

“Liverpool have been decimated in midfield, with [Naby] Keita, [Alex] Oxlade-Chamberlain out all season, [Jordan] Henderson out with a hamstring injury and Thiago only just back. But, after the international break, Klopp will not be short of options, and the new signing Arthur will be up to speed.
“Look how Harvey Elliott has established himself while all those senior stars have been injured. He has probably been Liverpool’s best midfielder this season.
“Jones is also a big talent, but it won’t be easy getting in that side now with everyone fit. Fabinho and Thiago are the main men, and everyone else has to fit around them”.
