Liverpool are ready to terminate Marcelo Pitaluga's loan deal after he suffered ankle ligament damage, sources have told Football Insider.

The Brazilian goalkeeper, 19, has made a strong impression in the first half of the campaign at non-league outfit Macclesfield.

Pitaluga has broken down due to injury and returned to parent club Liverpool for treatment at their Kirkby training headquarters.

Now, he is set to join the club at their mid-season training camp in Dubai this week as the squad prepare for their late-December return.

Liverpool have internally discussed the possibility of recalling Pitaluga and ending the deal early ahead of the January window.

When he is fully recovered from injury, which is expected to be in January, they would then find him a new loan team.

That would give him the opportunity to play at a higher level than at Macclesfield, who lead division one west of the Northern Premier League.

It is likely that Pitaluga will join a club in League One or League Two as he looks to take the next step in his blossoming career.

The countryman of Anfield number one Alisson is highly rated by Liverpool coaches and regarded as capable of developing into a keeper who can play at the highest level.

Capped by Brazil at Under-17 level, he has played 25 times for Liverpool Under-21s after graduating quickly from the Under-18s.

Pitaluga was also named on the first-team bench four times last season.

As well as Alisson, he is behind Caoimhin Kelleher and Adrian in the Liverpool keeper pecking order.
