Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said that it is common knowledge they are looking to offload winger Lazar Markovic this summer.
The 23-year-old attacker, who can play on either flank or in a central role, made the last of his 34 appearances for the club back in May 2015, appearing in a six minute cameo against Queens Park Rangers.
Since then the Serbian international has spent time on loan at Fenerbahce, Sporting CP and then Hull City during the latter half of last season, while he has also earned 22 caps for his country.
While the attacker may have held some hope of forcing his way into Klopp’s plans this summer, the German manager has made his stance on the player’s future very clear.
He told the Liverpool Echo: “With Lazar, it’s no secret that if he finds a club then we will negotiate.
“He’s now fit and another one who is in the best shape since I’ve known him.
“He’s a really good player. There will be a club out there who needs him.”
Markovic joined Liverpool from Benfica back in the summer of 2014 for £20million, but it appears his time at Anfield will come to an end this summer, with just a year left on his contract.
Football Insider verdict
Markovic will always be viewed as a highly expensive flop on Merseyside, and understandably so. In his 34 games, he managed to score just three goals, while he set up Phillipe Coutinho for the only assist of his Anfield career. Klopp will just be hoping to get some money in the bank for the Serbian, as the 23-year-old will be able to sign a pre-contract in January and depart for nothing in a years time. It could mean that there is a 22-cap international winger with Premier League experience available for a cut price deal, and usually that would have a whole host of suitors circling. However, the winger’s time at Hull will have done nothing to help Liverpool offload him, with just two goals in 14 appearances, a tally which was unable to help prevent Hull from being relegated. As a result, it may take some serious negotiating to convince any club to sign him.
