Liverpool legend urges Klopp to sign these two players and change style of play

By Harry Sykes

Liverpool legend Dietmar Hamann has urged current manager Jurgen Klopp to sign Southampton’s Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.

Talking at the Star Sixes tournament, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Hamman also thinks Klopp needs to find another way to win aside from his infamous pressing style.

The Reds were linked heavily with a move for van Dijk this summer but had to make a public apology after Southampton complained they had tapped the player up.

That represented a significant humiliation for Liverpool, but speculation surrounding van Dijk hasn’t gone away and the club is still as short as 1/3 with SkyBet to finally snag their man.

“That would be great [to sign Van Dijk] because he’s one of the best centre-backs in the league, but I think the club handled the situation poorly,” Hamman said.

“Whether that will affect his decision I don’t know, but I’d love to see him at the club because I think he would improve the team no end.”

Hamman is also a big fan of current top target, RB Leipzig’s Naby Keita.

“He will suit them because he is a very capable player, but going forward is probably Liverpool’s strongest suit.

“I think [defensively] has been the Achilles heel the last few years, so they have to bring two or three players in.”

Hamann enjoyed a fine career at Liverpool where he made 283 appearances across all competitions, and won six major honours at Anfield in a seven-year stay.

However, he had another message for Klopp, and claimed that if the German wants to enjoy similar success during his time at Anfield, he will need to have a Plan B in the Premier League next season.

“They have to find another way to win games. They can’t go 100mph for 90 minutes every three days to win games. It’s simply not possible against other good teams. You need to be more streetwise and have a tactical nous about you.”

Liverpool open the 2016/17 season with a visit to Watford on August 12 and will be hoping to do better than their fourth-placed finish last season.
