Exclusive: Liverpool big name set for exit talks, ex-pro 'Hearing' who may replace him

Liverpool defender Dejan Lovren is set for showdown talks with Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season as the club extensively scout Leeds United loanee Ben White as a possible replacement, Football Insider understands.

The Croatia international has made only 14 appearances this season and his poor availability and multiple injury issues over the last two campaigns is a growing concern.

A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that Klopp is planning for talks with Lovren at the end of the campaign to thrash out his future and whether the club will listen to offers for him in the summer.

Scouts from the runaway Premier League leaders have been looking closely at younger centre-backs to replace him, including Brighton & Hove Albion’s Ben White.

The 22-year-old has had an outstanding campaign at Championship leaders Leeds United, with his valuation rocketing beyond the £20million mark.

Ex-England and Leeds goalkeeper Paul Robinson is a regular visitor to the Yorkshire giants’ Thorp Arch headquarters, where his son is in the academy, and is aware of Liverpool’s interest.

“I’m hearing they’re looking at Ben White at Leeds,” the ex-Spurs keeper told Football Insider. “Brighton will want him back.

“He has had a fantastic season and I suspect Liverpool would look at him to play alongside Van Dijk, and or Gomez.

“Lovren has not had a lot of game time but he is improved. If he leaves they will be looking at somebody like Ben White to come in.”

Lovren came close to a move to Italy last summer, with Roma and AC Milan both holding talks over a move, but terms could not be agreed and he stayed on at Anfield for a sixth season.

The Champions League winner turns 31 in July, when he will also enter the final year of a contract expiring in the summer of 2021.
