Liverpool have made a £158million bid for Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio, according to a report.
Telemadrid claim that the Reds view the 22-year-old starlet as someone who could become a key figure for them in the near future, with the winger being seen as a player with huge potential.
The Spanish broadcaster report that Liverpool’s bid comes in way below Asensio’s release clause, which stands at £617million, and Real have no intention of selling.
Football Insider verdict:
The Asensio links seem to be building this summer, and the Spain international will surely be aware of the interest from Liverpool. While Real are obviously keen to keep hold of him this summer, and his release clause is ridiculously high, you would not rule out a move materialising if the Reds’ interest is serious. Despite being so highly-rated in Madrid, Asensio is still not a regular starter for Los Blancos, and that could possibly see him look elsewhere for a starting berth. There is however no outward indication that he is seeking a move away from the Champions League winners. Another issue would be the fact that Asensio would not even be guaranteed to start at Anfield, with Jurgen Klopp’s preferred front three sure to keep their places at the start of next season. All in all, this is an interesting link this summer, but the obstacles to any move may end up proving too much for a deal to be pushed through.
