Liverpool news: Campbell backs 2023 transfer plan after Calvin Ramsay announcement

Liverpool do not need to add another centre-midfielder to their squad this summer, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Arsenal and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, is adamant Jurgen Klopp’s side will be “fine with what they’ve got” next season.

On Sunday (19 June), Liverpool confirmed the signing of Calvin Ramsay from Aberdeen in a deal which could rise to £6.5million.

According to the Liverpool Echo‘s Theo Squires (19 June), the right-back’s arrival concludes the Reds’ business for the summer.

The club are said to not be in a rush to sign a new centre-midfielder and will postpone doing so for 12 months.

When asked by Football Insider if Liverpool had enough in midfielder to challenge the likes of Man City for the title next season, Campbell said:

“Thiago [Alcantara], [Jordan] Henderson, Fabinho, [James] Milner, [Naby] Keita – they know how to win. They know the system and they know what Jurgen Klopp wants.

“I don’t see not signing a midfielder being a problem for them. It is very difficult to buy somebody capable of bettering what they’ve got.

“There is only one or two areas where Liverpool need strengthening. They are strong all over the pitch.

“The striker position was the big one for me and they got [Darwin] Nunez so that’s sorted.

“I have no worries about the midfield position. I think they will be just fine with what they have got.”
