Jurgen Klopp wants to continue his raid of the Bundesliga by adding Hoffenheim defender Niklas Sule to his Liverpool ranks, according to a report.

Sule, 20, is being targeted by Klopp because of his aggression and physicality and the Daily Mail report he has shot to the very top of the German manager's shortlist.

It is also thought he could form a formidable partnership with incoming Schalke defender Joel Matip, as Klopp weighs up whether Dejan Lovren will remain as his first choice centre-back.

Klopp has reportedly given up on Martin Skrtel and is expecting Kolo Toure to leave, but remains convinced he needs just one more option at the back with Matip already on board and Joe Gomez due to come back from long-term injury.

The future of Mamadou Sakho is also unclear as the Frenchman awaits his punishment for testing positive for a banned substance.

Hoffenheim are thought to need convincing to sell their German Under-21 international, who has already made 83 appearances for the club despite his tender age.

On top of that Sule's current contract runs until 2019, meaning a substantial bid would be needed to prize him away from Hoffenheim.

At 6ft 5in Sule could be an imposing force in the Premier League and is regarded as one of the Bundesliga's brightest defending talents and a future German international.
