Rebekah Vardy, Jamie Vardy’s new wife, has labelled Leicester fans “pathetic” and insisted she has no bearing on what club he plays for after offers from Arsenal and Liverpool.

Football Insider revealed that Arsenal have triggered a £22million release clause in Vardy’s contract and are ready to hand him a four-year deal worth £120,000 a week.

Liverpool have also been credited with in an interest in the Foxes’ striker and the Mirror claimed on Friday night that the Reds had offered a massive £140,000-a-week to choose them over the Gunners.

Mrs Vardy has been receiving a wave of abuse online from angry and desperate Leicester supporters begging her to tell them something about her husband’s future plans, but she refused to give anything away.

She said: “Listen LCFC fans don’t come at me with abuse! I have nothing whatsoever to do with calling the shots in my husband’s career! It’s unfair.”

Arsene Wenger made his move for Vardy after learning that the new Leicester contract the England international signed in February has a release clause.

The agreement is understood to state that the figure must be triggered by a specific date, which is understood to be 3 June.

The news has sparked panic among Leicester fans and Mrs Vardy was unimpressed with the conduct of some of those supporters, calling them “pathetic”.

The final decision will rest with the England striker, 29, who has to weigh up whether to accept what could be the only chance of his career to move to a Premier League heavyweight.

Leicester will begin their title defence in August, but as Claudio Ranieri suggested soon after they lifted the trophy their main priority is to remain in the top half of the table.

In other Liverpool news, Aston Villa are hoping to beat the Reds to the signature of this exciting winger.
