Liverpool will have to pay Feyenoord a "huge" compensation fee to make Arne Slot their new manager, sources have told Football Insider

Slot has now emerged as the top contender to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.

The deal is advancing for the 45-year-old, but the Reds are yet to hold any formal talks with the Dutch giants.

The Rotterdam-based club don’t want to lose Slot, but they are facing an uphill battle to keep him and won’t stand in his way if their compensation demands are met.

That sum is likely to be around the £10million mark, which is considered a huge fee to be paid to another club for a manager.

The charismatic Dutchman is increasingly likely to be the next Liverpool boss despite Anfield chiefs privately insisting they are still assessing other options.

Arne Slot frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp as Liverpool manager

Slot appears to have stolen a march on Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim after he was previously linked with the position.

The Feyenoord boss has enjoyed a fruitful spell in Rotterdam, having claimed the Dutch Cup on 21 April to add to the Eredivisie title he won last season.

The Dutchman, who has a 61.1 per cent win rate as a manager, has led his side to second in the table this year behind runaway leaders PSV Eindhoven.

Liverpool have been assessing their options to replace Klopp since the German announced in January he would be bringing his nine-year spell on Merseyside to an end this summer.

Liverpool

The Reds appear keen to fill the role before the current campaign comes to a close as they look to formulate their plans for next season, with Michael Edwards returning as CEO of Football.

The former sporting director will work closely with the new man in charge at Anfield and it’s likely that is now going to be Slot.
