Liverpool have shortlisted Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann and Ruben Amorim as candidates to replace Jurgen Klopp as they close in on the game-changing re-appointment of Michael Edwards, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking to the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track Podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed the trio are under consideration at Anfield if they can't convince top-choice Xabi Alonso to join.

It is believed that Sporting Lisbon boss Amorim, who is also on the radar of Barcelona, is highly regarded by chiefs at Liverpool amid his successful spell with the Portuguese side.

Brighton manager De Zerbi has also impressed the club, but he is being tracked by Premier League rivals Man United to replace the underpressure Erik ten Hag as well as Barcelona.

Well-placed sources have told Football Insider that Nagelsmann, the current manager of the German national team, could become available to Liverpool after this summer's Euros.

Regardless, the Reds are still pushing hard to bring Alonso, who currently has Bayer Leverkusen at the top of the Bundesliga, to join the club.

Liverpool recently thrashed Sparta Praha 5-1 in the first leg of their last-16 tie in the Europa League on Thursday evening (7 March).

They are next in action against title rivals Man City, who are just one point below them in second place, on Sunday afternoon (10 March).
