Liverpool are plotting a move for Atletico Madrid defender Sime Vrasljko, who Diego Simeone has suggested that he’s willing to let go, according to a report.
The Sun reports that the Reds are keen on the defender and Simeone will sell him for the right price, which is expected to be around £22million.
However, Liverpool face competition from Napoli and Vrasljko would prefer a move to Italy rather than England.
Vrasljko is naturally a right-back, a position the Reds have a lot of cover for, but he can also play as a left-back.
The defender has only featured four times in La Liga for Atletico Madrid this season and has not experienced a defeat. He also has 32 caps for Croatia.
Simeone said: “We are happy when other clubs look at our players, this is normal and it is positive for us.
“The truth is Sime has been injured and when he has played for us he has done very well, but it is a fact that Juanfran has done superbly also.”
Football Insider Verdict
Liverpool have got their critics regarding their defensive problems, but right-back isn’t a problem position for them. Joe Gomez and Trent Alexander-Arnold have put in good performance when playing in that position. There’s also the fact Liverpool still have Nathaniel Clyne to return, so it’s not an area that needs urgent attention. While Vraslijko can play at left-back, paying out £22million to utilise someone in the wrong position seems foolish. The player also prefers a move to Italy, so Liverpool would have to spend some time, perhaps even some cash, in order to tempt him to Anfield. The Reds would be better offer finding a natural left-back if that’s the position they want to improve.
