Liverpool saluted by pundit as Darwin Nunez transfer details emerge - 'it's cheap money'

Kevin Campbell has heaped praise on new Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker claimed the deal is “cheap money” for the Reds when the player’s wages are looked at.

On Tuesday (14 June), Liverpool announced the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica.

The deal could amount to a club-record £85million if the Uruguay international is a success for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

According to The Telegraph‘s Matt Law (13 June), Nunez has signed a six-year contract worth £140,000-a-week on Merseyside.

When asked by Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs for his assessment of Liverpool’s newest recruit, Campbell said: “It’s a really good signing for Liverpool.

“They are going to lose goals in [Sadio] Mane. He needs to be replaced and Nunez has a knack of being able to score.

“It has been a while since there’s been a real number nine at Anfield. Klopp will have to tweak the system a little bit but given the amount of chances they create I’m sure he will score goals.

“For £140,000-a-week, it is cheap money. It gives scope. Nunez is still young. If he does well he will earn a better contract. That’s the good thing for him.”

Nunez was one of the standout performers in Portuguese top-flight last season.

He scored 34 goals across all competitions for Benfica, including six goals in 10 Champions League appearances.
