Man City will have to beat off Premier League rivals Liverpool if they want to sign Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton.

According to the Daily Mail, Man City are interested in bringing the 20-year-old England international to the club due to uncertainty over the future of current midfield general Rodri.

He is also on the radar of their title rivals Liverpool as the race for his signature hots up.

Rodri has been linked with a move back to his native Spain, with Duncan Castles reporting Real Madrid are interested in bringing him to the Champions League holders.

Rodri is currently in his sixth season with Pep Guardiola's side and has proved to be an integral part since joining back in 2019, making 257 appearances for the Manchester club.

Football Insider understands Liverpool are in the market for a number six in January after failing to sign a player in that position in the summer.

Man City and Liverpool target Adam Wharton

Wharton had a break-out season at Crystal Palace last campaign following his move from boyhood club Blackburn Rovers in January.

Solid central midfield displays across 16 Premier League appearances for the club earned him a call-up to Gareth Southgate's Euro 2024 squad.

Wharton didn't play a single minute at the international tournament but has still caught the eye of the Premier League giants.

Liverpool failed to sign a midfielder during the summer transfer window after their pursuit of Real Sociedad star Martin Zubimendi fell through.
