Liverpool are closely monitoring Ajax sensation Jorrel Hato ahead of the summer transfer window, sources have told Football Insider.

The versatile 18-year-old defender has been catching attention in Holland with his performances for the Dutch giants this season and is emerging as their latest prize asset.

It is understood that Liverpool have a strong interest in Hato and their Premier League rivals Manchester United and Arsenal are also keeping tabs on his progress.

Sources have told Football Insider that Hato is viewed by Liverpool's recruitment team as a "proper footballer who can play but currently lacks the physical strength for the Premier League."

Liverpool keep close eye on Ajax wonderkid Jorrel Hato

Liverpool's scouting reports draw similarities between Hato and Manchester City's Nathan Ake, who stands at 180cm (5ft10") but is able to play at both left-back and centre-back for Pep Guardiola's side.

The Reds have made a left-sided centre-back a top transfer priority heading into the summer window as they look to bolster their defensive options.

Despite his age, Hato has been an integral part of Ajax's senior squad this season, playing every minute of their league campaign so far.

He has also captained the side on multiple occasions this season, including a 3-1 win over AEK Athens in the Europa League.

Hato has also gathered experience on the international stage after making his debut for the Netherlands in November 2023 as a substitute for Liverpool's Virgil van Dijk.
