Liverpool have tabled a stunning £42million bid for Real Madrid playmaker Marco Asensio, according to a report.
Spanish publication Don Balon claim the Merseyside giants lodged the offer in a bid to prise the 21-year-old from the Bernabeu this summer.
It is said that Real have rejected Liverpool’s mammoth bid, which is equivalent to 50million Euros, as they do not want to sell Asensio.
Real president Florentino Perez has issued a hands-off warning to any club interested in signing the two-times Spain international.
However, it is believed that manager Jurgen Klopp is not ready to give up on Real’s number 20, as he looks to bolster his attacking options ahead of the 2017-18 campaign.
The left-winger, who joined from Mallorca in the summer of 2015, has made an big impression at Real this season after a productive campaign on loan at Espanyol in 2015-16.
He has scored nine goals and supplied three assists in 29 matches in all competitions this season, including an extra-time wonder goal to help knock Bayern Munich out of the Champions League on Tuesday night.
Football Insider verdict:
Klopp should do whatever it takes to bring Asensio to Anfield. The attacking midfielder would fit beautifully into the German’s attacking system, and would be guaranteed more game time than he gets in Madrid, where he is behind the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and Isco in the pecking order for the wide forward slots. Asensio demonstrated his potential with a stunning solo goal against Bayern and looks primed to make the step up from reserve sensation to first team star.
In other Liverpool transfer news, the club are clear favourites to sign a world-class playmaker after a dramatic development.
