Sources: Naby Keita opens talks over Liverpool deal
Liverpool have opened talks with Naby Keita over a new contract, Football Insider understands.
Jurgen Klopp has given the green light to extending the Guinea international’s terms now he is about the enter the final 12 months of his Anfield deal.
A Liverpool source has told Football Insider that the club are keen to tie Keita to an extension this summer on what would be a new long-term deal.
His future has previously been in doubt but Liverpool have moved to end speculation over a potential exit.
Klopp is a big admirer of the 27-year-old and used him extensively in the final months of the season as Liverpool chased the quadruple.
Keita did not get as many minutes as Fabinho, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson – Klopp’s first choice midfield trio – but nonetheless started the FA Cup and League Cup finals as Liverpool won two trophies.

The Merseysiders have already secured one midfielder to a new contract, with James Milner agreeing a one-year extension.
The 36-year-old’s previous deal was due to expire at the end of this month and he reportedly had external offers from one Premier League club and two from overseas.
Keita has also attracted strong interest from clubs keen to exploit his potential availability next year.
Liverpool have moved to secure him to an extension to prevent him quitting on a free transfer in the summer of 2023.
Keita made 25 starts among 40 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool in 2021-22 in a campaign interrupted by a month away at the African Cup of Nations.
He has made 116 appearances for the club since signing from RB Leipzig for nearly £50million in 2018.
