Liverpool tipped to beat Man United to sign player 'better than Bellingham' after major update - Phillips

Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips would “naturally slot” into the Liverpool midfield, according to Kevin Phillips.

The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted the 26-year-old could play for “any side in the world”.

According to The Sun (9 December), Phillips will snub any approach from Man United in favour of a move to Liverpool – with both sides interested in the England international.

The Leeds midfielder is currently sidelined with a hamstring complaint and could face a two-month injury layoff.

Phillips insisted Liverpool should target the 26-year-old ahead of Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham.

“I’ve said on record that Kalvin Phillips could play in any side in the world,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He’s so good in that role in front of the defence. Breaking up play, hitting diagonal passes and running with the ball.

“He would naturally slot into that Liverpool side, I’m sure.

“If I am picking between Jude Bellingham, who’s been linked with Liverpool, and him, I would pick Phillips. He’s a bit older but I think he’s a top-class player.”

Phillips started every game for England at Euro 2020 as the Three Lions were beaten by Italy in the final.

The midfielder has notched 19 caps for Gareth Southgate’s side.

He made his international debut in September 2020.
