Liverpool tipped to sell Roberto Firmino as £65m deal agreed - pundit
Liverpool could sell Roberto Firmino after they complete the signing of Darwin Nunez from Benfica, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker insisted Liverpool had to sign Nunez after Man City bought Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund.
Benfica confirmed on Monday (13 June) that they had agreed a deal worth an initial €75million (£65million), rising to €100million (£86.6million) with Liverpool for the striker who turns 23 later this month.
Football Insider first revealed last week (7 June) that the Reds were lining up a move for Nunez after he netted 34 goals from 41 matches in all competitions in the 2021-22 season.
It will leave Liverpool with six frontline forwards but Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Firmino are all out of contract at the end of the 2022-23 season.
“They needed to do it,” Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“Regardless of whether Mane stays or goes, they needed another attacker.
“Firmino is not good enough. He’s done well for Liverpool over the years but it’s time for him to go.
“You’ve got to keep up with other teams, you can’t stay still. It’s a big statement signing.
“I’m sure Man City were buzzing when they signed Haaland and now they’ve seen Liverpool get Nunez they will think it’s going to be a hard season and it’s hard to call.”
Firmino ended the 2021-22 season out of the starting XI after he struggled with an injury.
The 30-year-old scored 11 goals and contributed five assists in 35 games across all competitions.
