Liverpool could get their hands on the next Diogo Jota by signing Raphinha from Leeds United, according to Alan Hutton.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Aston Villa and Scotland defender admitted it was no surprise to hear the Premier League giants were sniffing around the Brazilian winger after his dazzling start to life in the top-flight.
As revealed by Football Insider on Saturday, Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Raphinha after their scouts had been “blown away” by his development at Elland Road.
The electrifying forward has scored four goals and chipped in with four assists so far with Marcelo Bielsa and is now an established member of the starting XI at Elland Road.
However, Hutton admitted Raphinha might not be in West Yorkshire much longer with the likes of Liverpool sniffing around at a potential summer raid.
“You look at Liverpool, they always tend to pick out the gems from the other teams, you look at the likes of Jota and players like him,” Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge.
“They’re quite clever, when it comes to getting these gems from the other teams that have unearthed them, if you want. Look, Raphinha’s playing at a high level, Leeds are doing really well at the moment. He could be the next Jota for them.
“It doesn’t surprise me that these teams, the likes of Liverpool, they probably need to get more players through the door, I think, to try and get them back to where they were last season.
“It doesn’t surprise me at all they’re looking at that type of player. He would suit Liverpool’s team down to the ground.”
