Liverpool told to finalise £50m Marc Guehi signing as two big-name exits mooted - Agbonlahor

Gabby Agbonlahor has insisted Liverpool should proceed with a £50million summer deal for Crystal Palace and England star Marc Guehi.

The former Aston Villa striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Reds stars Joe Gomez and Joel Matip are “not good enough” and should be sold.

According to the Daily Mail (22 May), Liverpool have joined Man United, Arsenal and Tottenham in the race for Guehi, 22, ahead of the summer window.

The report claims the Crystal Palace star, who joined the Eagles from Chelsea in 2021, could cost as much as £50million.

Guehi, who has three caps for England and is part of Gareth Southgate’s latest squad, made 40 appearances across all competitions in the 2022-23 campaign.

Liverpool stars Gomez and Matip started together on the Premier League’s final day (28 May), conceding four times in a 4-4 draw with relegated Southampton.

The Merseysiders have also been credited with an interest in highly-rated centre-back duo Josko Gvardiol and Goncalo Inacio.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “I do like Guehi.

“There’s been talk about Tomori getting into the England squad, but I think Guehi is the better defender.

“He’s got the right Premier League experience for Liverpool. They’ve got Van Dijk and Konate, but for me – Matip and Gomez aren’t good enough, and they should go.

“They’re too inconsistent and injury-prone.

“They need a top defender like Guehi to challenge Konate for that place.”
