Liverpool told to move 'now' for Youssoufa Moukoko with deal already signed - pundit

Noel Whelan has insisted Liverpool must wrap up a “quick” deal for Youssoufa Moukoko to prevent European rivals from taking advantage of their poor start to the season.

The former Leeds striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed Jurgen Klopp must kick-start a transition to youth with a number of his key men having just “one or two seasons left at the top level”.

This site revealed last month (21 October) that Liverpool and Man City are among a number of top European clubs who have set their sights on Borussia Dortmund striker sensation Moukoko.

Football Insider updated on 2 November to reveal that the teenager has agreed to join England-based agency Unique Sports Management when he turns 18 on 20 November.

The striker, who will play for Germany at this month’s World Cup in Qatar, is out of contract at the end of this season.

Moukoko has notched six goals and six assists for Dortmund across 22 appearances in the 2022-23 campaign.

Whelan suggested Liverpool would be “sorted in attack for the next five years” if they seal the German’s arrival.

He told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “They need to breathe fresh air into the football club.

“If they can pull this off, they’ll be sorted in attack for the next five years.

“He’s one of the best up-and-coming talents in the world right now and that’s obvious with the fact that he’s going to play in his first World Cup at such a tender age.

“All the signs are good for Liverpool if they can get someone into the club with that stature at such a young age.

“They’ve got to get this transition underway. There are a lot of older players at Liverpool who you can only see lasting another one or two seasons at the top level.

“It’d be a great signing for them and a real positive.

“They’ve got to make their move quick and get something in place now. Otherwise, like we’re seeing with Jude Bellingham – other teams like Man City can steal in and take the lead.”
