Liverpool told to sign Declan Rice amid 'disaster' verdict - expert

Liverpool should sign Declan Rice to replace the “ageing” Jordan Henderson.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Henderson, 32, remains a key component of the Liverpool midfield, making 35 league appearances during the 2021-22 campaign.

His regular midfield partners, Fabinho, 28, and Thiago, 31, are also two of the older players in the Reds’ squad

Wenham insists Jurgen Klopp’s side need to “spend big” on a new midfielder.

“For me, Liverpool’s biggest problem is actually the midfield,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I just don’t think it’s that good. I don’t rate Naby Keita at all. Oxlade-Chamberlain has been a disaster as well.

“Yes, they have Fabinho and Henderson but they are ageing players. I think they really need to add a top-class central midfielder.

“They could have done with Frenkie de Jong if I am being honest. They do have a lot of options but a lot of Liverpool fans will tell you they are a midfielder short.

“Someone like Declan Rice, for example. They need to replace the ageing Henderson and he could be in that Liverpool side for the next decade.

“At some point, they will need to spend big on that midfield.”

Henderson has been a staple of the Liverpool midfield since he joined in 2011.

He has made 449 appearances for the club and lifted Premier League and Champions League titles.
