Liverpool transfer news: Expert can't believe Jude Bellingham news - 'phwoar, £100m'
Kevin Phillips has claimed Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp are right to baulk at Jude Bellingham's £100million valuation.
The former Sunderland striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed the 18-year-old needs a "few more years" at the top level before a nine-figure move can be sanctioned.
According to The Sun (8 March), manager Klopp believes £100m-rated Bellingham will soon be "the best midfielder in the world".
Football Insider revealed last month (6 February) that Borussia Dortmund are advancing talks over a new contract for the youngster amid fears over the Merseysiders lining up a mega summer swoop.
A German source told this site that Dortmund want a deal in place ahead of the summer - and conceded “we are worried about Liverpool”.
When asked if Bellingham is worth £100million, Phillips told Football Insider's Dylan Childs: “No, I don’t think so.
“In my opinion, you’re only worth that amount of money if you’ve got a few more years under your belt and a bit more experience. There are very few top players worth that kind of money.
“At his age, phwoar, £100m? I’m not sure. If he was to go for that amount, the pressure on – for a young kid – would be very difficult. Even if we know he’s got a really wise head on his shoulders.
“I don’t think he’s worth that amount just yet, so I can really understand why Klopp is reluctant to fork out that kind of money for someone his age.”
11-cap England star Bellingham joined Dortmund from Birmingham for a reported initial fee of £22.75million in 2020.
The midfielder has made 37 appearances this term, scoring six and assisting 11.
