Kieran Maguire: Liverpool finally uncovering the 'truth' after 'deeply concerning' update

Liverpool executives deserve enormous credit for their handling of the chaos at the Champions League final in Paris – and they are slowly finding out the truth about the events of that day.

That is the view of finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the appalling treatment of supporters outside the Stade de France last month (28 May).

Liverpool have made mental health services available for supporters in the wake of the final and have been in constant communication with supporters.

CEO Billy Hogan gave an official update as recently as last Friday (10 June) to address “deeply concerning” allegations of a cover-up by the French authorities.

Uefa have formally apologised to both Liverpool and Real Madrid fans for the handling of the European showpiece.

Maguire saluted Liverpool for their conduct throughout the ordeal.

“Liverpool know what the fanbase went through with respect to Hillsborough,” he told Football Insider’s Adam Williams.

“They know what the fans and the city itself went through went through when they were subject to lies from the police and The Sun newspaper. They have seen a similar initial attempt from the French authorities.

“By standing shoulder-to-shoulder with the fanbase, Liverpool have very quickly managed to get closer to the truth. But also, they are fully aware of the impact that some of the scenes have had on fans.

“They deserve a lot of credit for providing pastoral support for the supporters who have supported them so loyally.”
