Liverpool view Antonee Robinson as the "ideal" replacement for Andy Robertson amid questions about the left-back's long-term future.

This is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the left-back's display at Anfield has only boosted their interest.

His performances are said to have attracted the attention of some of England's elite clubs, who will look to make a move in the summer.

Robinson has started all 16 of Fulham's Premier League games this term, and has picked up six assists as he provides a constant threat down their left flank.

His willingness to overlap and get forward has seen him rise to the top of Liverpool's list of potential left-back targets and they are now considering their next steps.

Liverpool step up interest in Antonee Robinson after what they saw

Brown explained that Robinson is the Reds' top target as things stand, but they have also been scouting across Europe for potential alternatives given his price tag.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that a deal could be agreed between the two clubs, but it is unlikely to take place in January.

"He's definitely one they're interested in signing," he told Football Insider.

"After his performance at Anfield, I'd expect that interest will only have increased.

"There isn't an abundance of left-backs out there, and we know that's a position they'd like to strengthen in the transfer market.

"They've been looking in Europe as well as in the Premier League because players from English clubs tend to come at a Premium these days.

"When it comes to finding a player who's going to step into Andy Robertson's shoes, that task becomes even more difficult.

"But he's answered a lot of the questions about him and he's at the top of his game at the moment.

"He's very similar to Robertson, actually, in the way he's always willing to get forward and cause problems on the overlap getting problems in.

"Over the last few years, there's been nobody better at that than Robertson, but now you could make the argument that Robinson is right up there."

"So as far as I've heard, they view him as the ideal replacement in that position."
