Liverpool are ready to take advantage of Jack Wilshere’s contract stalemate with Arsenal, according to a report.
The Sun claim that the Merseyside giants are in the hunt to land the Gunners talisman and are closely monitoring the outcome of his talks over a new deal.
It is said that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big admirer of Wilshere, 26, who is in talks with Arsenal over a new deal that will mean him taking a cut to his current £90,000-a-week wages.
The Gunners have offered the England international a deal that will be based on appearances and performances because of his wretched fitness record in recent years.
It is not stated whether Wilshere is willing to accept such a contract, which paves the way for Liverpool to make a swoop for a second signing from Arsenal after landing Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain last summer for £35million.
Football Insider verdict:
Wilshere would be a brilliant signing for Liverpool if, and this is a big if, he could be available for two-thirds of the season. His brittle body and playing style, particularly those susceptible ankles, mean anything more is unrealistic. But the Arsenal academy product has showed this season that he can still be a top-performing Premier League player and has been one of the Gunners’ best players in recent weeks, even though he was only a 75th minute substitute in their 5-1 demolition of Everton last night.
In other Liverpool transfer news, it can be revealed that the Merseyside giants have secured a last gasp double attacker deal.
