Alexander Isak: Swedish media spot on about Liverpool star's display vs Romania

Alexander Isak has received praise from Sweden after scoring again in Friday's 2-1 win over Romania in the Nations League.

The Liverpool forward struck to open the scoring in Stockholm, with Arsenal striker Viktor Gyokeres ultimately netting the winner after Dennis Man had equalised.

The 27-year-old looks to have finally found his feet in recent weeks, scoring five goals so far this season after an incredibly difficult 12 months since moving to Merseyside.

Liverpool signed Isak from Newcastle United on deadline day last summer in a record £125million move that many expected would see Arne Slot's side retain the Premier League title.

But his first season was anything but successful - the Swede scored just four goals across all competitions and spent three months injured with a broken fibula.

Under the guidance of new manager Andoni Iraola, Isak appears to have returned to his best and looks set for a strong season.

After last season, it would be quite easy to forget just how effective Isak is when at his very best.

The striker scored 27 goals across all competitions in his final campaign for Newcastle, and 25 the season before that.

His goal was one typical of what he has become known for, latching onto a ball in behind and finishing well past the goalkeeper, but there more to his performance, as well.

Isak created a chance and completed a successful dribble, as well as taking seven touches in the opposition area - four more than anybody else on the pitch.

He was also fouled twice, won four duels and made three recoveries, making for a strong display from the hometown hero.

"Liverpool man's goal-scoring form continued as he scored the crucial 1-0 goal. Also good in the game. Involved in the hot combination plays that could lead to goals," Swedish outlet SvenskaFans wrote, awarding Isak a four out of five.

Fotbollskanalen gave him a three out of five, and wrote: "Took advantage of a butter pass from Ayari to 1-0. Very involved in the attacking play, as he often dropped down and combined, while also threatening several times. 

"Got the ball on one arm, before Stroud's direct hit was ruled out after VAR review. Strong three."

Graham Potter set to make Liverpool enemies

Former West Ham and Chelsea manager Graham Potter was appointed by Sweden in October and has transformed the country's hopes.

The Englishman guided his team to the World Cup knockout stages, and has now overseen a strong start to the Nations League.

He will make enemies in Liverpool if Isak is not given sufficient rest over the coming days, however.

"Alex has played a lot of games lately, is in a good place and as I know him he wants to start games, but we need to see how everyone is, how they react and recover," Potter said this week.

"Can Isak start every game? Potentially yes. But there's no chance [he will] play all the minutes."
