Alexis Mac Allister 'unhappy' as Liverpool make new contract decision

Alexis Mac Allister has been left disappointed as Liverpool do not plan to offer him a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old has eorked his way back into Andoni Iraola's side with impressive displays in recent weeks, having started three of their five Premier League games this season.

His current deal is set to run until 2028, and with no immediate risk of losing the midfielder, the Reds do not view his long-term future as a priority as things stand.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Mac Allister is unhappy at the way Liverpool have handled his situation compared to his teammates'.

This comes after his midfield partners Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch signed new contracts earlier this year, sparking calls for his deal to be renewed.

Speculation about Mac Allister's future has been rife over the last 12 months, and his latest declaration is likely to set tongues wagging as Liverpool delay a decision.

Football Insider revealed back in April that Liverpool were considering cashing in on Mac Allister, adding to the uncertainty surrounding his long-term future at Anfield.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Alexis Mac Allister has been pretty clear that he was disappointed and sad that he had not been offered a new deal by the club.

"He's seen his midfield partners Dominik Szoboszlai and Ryan Gravenberch both get new contracts at Anfield as well, so he's been disappointed by the club's decision.

"Mac Allister didn't have his best season last year, not unlike a lot of the players at Anfield, but now he's got just two years left on his deal.

"All Mac Allister can do right now is continue to impress, perform at a high level, but as things stand, it looks like he's going to be left unhappy."

Football Insider revealed ahead of the summer transfer window that Real Madrid have been keeping a close eye on Mac Allister's situation and could finally make a move.

Los Blancos have been long-term admirers of the Argentina international, and despite never having made a formal offer, have been plotting a move behind the scenes.

Mac Allister, meanwhile, has never ruled out a move to the Spanish giants and has previously left the door open to the switch, inviting the growing possibility of a move.
