Arne Slot installed new favourite for marquee manager job after Liverpool exit
Liverpool moved to sack Slot at the end of May following a disappointing domestic campaign where the club finished fifth in the Premier League.
They suffered 20 defeats across all competitions and failed to build on his debut Premier League title-winning campaign.
Andoni Iraola has since taken over at Anfield for the season ahead, with Slot yet to return to management a little over a month on from his exit.
He has been mooted to step back into work with several Premier League teams, such as Fulham and Newcastle United.
The 47-year-old reportedly declined the chance to take over at Craven Cottage just days after he left Liverpool.
He is now emerging as the leading candidate to become the new boss of the Netherlands national team, following Ronald Koeman's departure.
Arne Slot is leading the latest odds to be the Netherlands' next boss
Former Everton and Southampton boss Koeman resigned from his role earlier this week after his side were knocked out of the World Cup.
Morocco saw off the Netherlands on penalties in Monterrey after a 1-1 draw, even though they had topped Group F with seven points.
The Dutch FA are now searching for a new manager, and Slot has been installed as the favourite to take the job with a top UK bookmaker, at evens.
Who else is in the running to be the Netherlands' next manager?
Sources revealed to Football Insider before he was sacked that Slot had lost the Liverpool dressing room, and so clubs may be wary of appointing him anytime soon after such a tumultuous exit.
The Dutch FA will not be in any rush to make an appointment, though, with their next game set to take place in September in the Nations League.
Alongside Slot, current Netherlands assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy is one of the favourites to be their next manager, at odds of 7/2.
One of the top bookmakers also has Michael Reiziger as third-favourite at 4/1, while Peter Bosz (5/1), John Heitinga (6/1) and Erik ten Hag (6/1) are also contenders.
