Ex-refs chief: Liverpool star 'rightly punished' after lashing out when match finished

Alisson was deservedly slapped with a fine after he "acted in an improper manner" during Liverpool's clash with Nottingham Forest.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that the FA's decision was the right one.

Andoni Iraola's side were held to a 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday, 29 August, with the Brazilian conceding a penalty during the end-to-end game.

There was a lot of controversy around the decision, with some fans still not convinced that there was enough contact on Neco Williams inside the box.

Unable to control his emotions, Alisson was videoed stamping on the fourth official's electronic substitution board as he walked down the tunnel.

The 33-year-old accepted the charge before being hit with an £8000 fine, thanks to an incident that was seen by "millions around the world".

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett said: "The actions of the Liverpool goalkeeper venting his frustrations are rightly punished.

"When leaving the field of play, he kicked out at the substitution board, venting his frustration in the gaze of millions around the world.

"The FA have acted accordingly after the player obviously pleaded guilty."

Alisson has since kept a clean sheet against Ipswich Town and helped the Reds to a precious win over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League.

What does the future hold for the Liverpool star?

Alisson is now in his ninth season at Anfield, amassing 337 appearances for the Reds since his move from Roma in the summer of 2018.

Despite being one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League over the last decade, it is believed that this could be his final season at the club.

The Brazil international's current contract is set to expire next summer, and Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool have no intent to extend.

Giorgi Mamardashvili has failed to convince the majority of fans at Anfield, so it will be interesting to see who replaces the goalkeeper in the long term.
