Jurgen Klopp installed bookies favourite for manager job after development
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been tipped to return to management with the Germany national team.
Julian Nagelsmann is under contract with the side until 2028, but the former Bayern Munich manager is under intense scrutiny following his team's exit at the World Cup.
Germany beat Curacao and Ivory Coast in the group stage, but lost to Ecuador in their final game before they were knocked out of the round of 32 on penalties by Paraguay.
Klopp is yet to return to management since leaving Liverpool in 2024, but would reportedly be open to taking over from Nagelsmann.
The 59-year-old has been employed as global sports director of Red Bull since the start of 2025, after admitting that nine years with the Reds had left him exhausted.
There had been talk that Klopp would return to Liverpool to replace Arne Slot, but a job in international football could even allow the German to continue working for Red Bull.
Jurgen Klopp leads bookies' odds
Nagelsmann took over Germany in 2023, and has enjoyed, for the most part, a strong reign.
The 38-year-old's side have lost just eight of 37 games played under him, and were on a run of nine consecutive wins before the World Cup kicked off.
But the same problem that has troubled Germany ever since their 2014 World Cup win has also plagued Nagelsmann.
The 2016 Euros saw them knocked out at the semi-final stage, 2018 World Cup was a group stage exit, 2020, the round of 16, 2022, the group stage again, 2024, the quarter-final, and now 2026 - the round of 32.
Germany do not have the Philipp Lahm, the Bastian Schweinsteiger, the Thomas Muller, the Toni Kroos, Mesut Ozil, Miroslav Klose - the list goes on from that 2014 team.
But the likes of Kai Havertz, Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz and Joshua Kimmich should be enough to at least compete.
Klopp may have the answer, and one major bookmaker has made him the 2/5 favourite for the job over Pep Guardiola (5/1) and Sebastian Hoeness (6/1).
What Klopp said about the Germany job
Asked in the immediate aftermath of Germany's exit, Klopp told MagentaTV that he would not discuss it, yet.
"I haven't thought about that yet," he said. "I've often been in that situation myself as a coach, where a big dream has been shattered. I understand that when people talk about the national coach, my name is mentioned.
"But it's not the right moment to talk about it, especially not with me. I have a job that I really enjoy. And as far as I know, it's not a part-time job.
"The fact is, Germany was eliminated today, and this is not the moment for me to think about Jurgen Klopp's future."
