'Liverpool are always the club' - Jude Bellingham verdict after Real Madrid contract twist

Published on:

Jude Bellingham will end any speculation about a move to the Premier League by signing a new contract at Real Madrid.

The 23-year-old has long been linked with a return to English football, having left Birmingham City in 2020, with a number of his long-term admirers still keen on a deal.

Liverpool were among the midfielder's suitors before his move to Madrid in 2023, and are often mentioned whenever it is suggested that he could depart Los Blancos.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Bellingham is prepaerd to snub interest from Liverpool and his other admirers to stay at Real Madrid.

It is unlikely that the England international would have considered leaving the Bernabeu regardless of any interest from elsewhere, with a new deal now on the table until 2031.

Should Bellingham become available at any stage in the near future, while that is a way off as things stand, Liverpool are likely to be on alert, but nothing will change for now.

What is the latest on Jude Bellingham's future?

Brown told Football Insider last year that Bellingham could explore a move to the Premier League amid doubts at the time about his playing time under Xabi Alonso.

However, those claims were quickly dismissed, and while the midfielder continues to be tipped for a return to English football one day, he is happy and enjoying life in Spain.

So far this season, Bellingham has scored three goals and provided four assists in nine La Liga games, and is now happy to extend his stay at Real Madrid for the foreseeable future.

"There are always whispers about whether Jude Bellingham could move to the Premier League," Brown told Football Insider.

"He's one of England's best players, so of course people are going to want to see him playing in England, but I don't think that's something that will happen any time soon.

"Liverpool are always the club who seem to be mentioned if he was to become available, but it's a no brainer really for him to snub that and to sign a new deal at Real Madrid.

"He's loving life over there, he's a very important part of what they're doing, and when you're at a team like Real Madrid, why would you want to go elsewhere?"

Could Julian Ward revisit previous Liverpool targets?

Liverpool's interest in Bellingham first emerged before his move to Real Madrid in 2023, with director of football Julian Ward having led their push to sign him.

Ward is now back in his position at Anfield, and while any move for Bellingham appears to be off the cards, he could revisit another of his previous top targets.

Football Insider revealed last month that Ward is already making transfer plans at Liverpool and could reignite the club's long-term interest in signing Aurelien Tchouameni.

Bellingham's Real Madrid teammate, who also opted to join Los Blancos ahead of the Reds in 2022, is seen as somebody who would solve a lot of issues in their midfield.

However, he has also recently opted to extend his stay at Real Madrid in recent months, and any deal could be difficult for Liverpool to pull off.
