Liverpool could 'accept' new Florian Wirtz offer after Bayern Munich twist

Liverpool could be tempted to cut their losses on Florian Wirtz amid links with a move to Bayern Munich after a tough first year at the club.

The Reds spent £116million to prise the Germany international away from Bayer Leverkusen last summer, but he has failed to impress and is now raising concerns.

The 23-year-old has provided one assist this season, in the 2-2 draw against Nottingham Forest, but has largely frustrated including last time out against Fulham.

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool could be tempted to cash in on Wirtz as a result of his frustrating performances.

Bayern Munich have been fans of the midfielder since before his move to Anfield, and could now reignite their interest should they be made aware of his potential availability.

Should they come forward with a formal approach when the transfer windows open in 2027, there is a growing possibility Wirtz could be allowed to leave Liverpool.

Could Florian Wirtz leave Liverpool already?

Football Insider reported last month that Wirtz could be set for a big season at Liverpool after some impressive showings in pre-season, particularly against Monaco.

However, his Premier League displays have so far failed to live up to expectations, and the frustrations surrounding his role in the side have continued to grow.

Questions have been asked about the reasons behind his struggles, and there is now a feeling he could be allowed to leave Liverpool for the right price.

"Florian Wirtz is facing a lot of question marks about his future at Liverpool," Brown told Football Insider.

"I have to say, I'm surprised more hasn't been made of the fact Liverpool paid £116million for a player who has had very little if any impact on their performances in the last 12 months.

"When you pay that sort of money for a player, you want him to be performing every single week, providing goals, assists, and helping the team to win games.

"He hasn't matched up to that price tag at all, and while that isn't necessarily his fault that he's got that attached to him, the club aren't going to be pleased with their investment.

"So it wouldn't surprise me if another club comes along, like Bayern Munich for exmaple, if Liverpool are willing to cut their losses on him.

"Wirtz has struggled to adapt to the Premier League and struggled to find a place in the side where he can show his talents and justify the money Liverpool spent on him.

"So from the club's point of view, if they can make some of that money back, that might be something they are tempted to look into."

Which other clubs are interested in signing Wirtz?

Bayern Munich are not the only admirers of Wirtz, and should he be allowed to leave Liverpool in the near future, a number of clubs could be tempted to make a move.

The Germany international has struggled to make an impact at Anfield, but has obvious talent, and there is a belief he could thrive in the right team.

Football Insider revealed in May that Chelsea have considered making a move to sign Wirtz following the appointment of Xabi Alonso, who is a huge fan of his.

Alonso got the best out of Wirtz during their time together at Bayer Leverkusen, and it was those performances which expired the big-money move to Liverpool.

Despite opting against making a move during the summer, Chelsea are expected to keep a close eye on his situation and could be tempted in the near future.
