Liverpool supporters were watching from all over the globe as former winger Luis Diaz spear-headed Colombia to victory in the World Cup.

He had already assisted Daniel Munoz's opening goal before getting his side back in front, with Colombian going on to seal a 3-1 win on Thursday, 18 June.

Despite leaving for Bayern Munich in the summer of 2025, many at Anfield still keep an eye on the attacker's displays, and he has certainly been impressive since his big-money move.

With 26 goals and 19 assists in 51 games for the Bundesliga champions, Diaz has become one of the most in-form wingers in European football, and now he's doing it on the international stage.

Liverpool fans were likely watching the World Cup match with gritted teeth, though, as they continue to wonder why the decision was ever made to let him go.

The 29-year-old continues to prove the decision wrong, and when compared to the Reds' starter Cody Gakpo, supporters can't help but get more frustrated.

Liverpool continue to question Luis Diaz sale

Colombia now have a very good chance of qualifying for the World Cup knockout stages, and that probably wouldn't be likely without Diaz.

Liverpool's starting lineup would also be much stronger with the South American attacker present, but the hierarchy clearly decided that it was a better idea to keep Gakpo instead.

Fans have made their feelings very clear about the club's decision-making. They continue to regret Diaz's exit, still 12 months after his move to Bayern.

Anfield may have finally found an heir to the left wing

Supporters have been crying out for their No.18 to be sold this summer, having only added seven goals and five assists to his Premier League record in 2025-26.

His replacement may have already been found, and he could be the most exciting winger to join in a number of windows. The hijack from Newcastle United is already exciting enough.

Victor Munoz of Osasuna appears set to choose Anfield over St James' Park in a bizarre and unexpected transfer twist, and he could be the real deal.

The 22-year-old notched seven goals and five assists in 36 games last season, and with superstars around him, there is no reason why he shouldn't burst into life on Merseyside.

As for Gakpo, this transfer likely raises a lot of questions over his future.
