Liverpool make Alisson Becker new contract decision after 'talks'
Liverpool are not currently planning to offer Alisson Becker a new contract after holding discussions behind the scenes.
The 33-year-old remains the first-choice under Andoni Iraola, and has turned in some impressive performances already in his side's unbeaten start to the season.
However, there are lingering concerns about his age and injury history which could force the Reds to consider his future, with his current deal set to expire next summer.
Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool held internal discussions about Alisson's future during the summer transfer window.
That came amid interest from a number of clubs in Europe, including the likes of Juventus, and in Saudi Arabia where clubs have shown a strong interest in the shot-stopper.
While the door has not been closed on extending Alisson's contract, with his performances to be assessed this season, they are currently set to let him move on.
Could Liverpool allow Alisson to leave?
Football Insider revealed back in April that there are question marks over Alisson's long-term future at Liverpool following an injury-hit season at Anfield.
The Brazil international missed a total of 26 games for club and country through injuries and illness in the 2025-26 season, leading to growing doubts over his position.
Alisson has now started all three games of the new season, but those concerns are lingering in the background, and the club will soon be forced into a decision.
"The thing is with Alisson, he's a very, very good goalkeeper," Brown told Football Insider.
"Everybody knows that, he's been seen as one of the world's best for quite some time now, and he's still putting in top-class performances for Liverpool in the Premier League.
"When you have a player of his stature and experience, often it's best to keep them around even if you maybe have doubts about his age or injury history as you say.
"But it's something Liverpool have held talks about internally, because there is a decision to be made, and perhaps they think they can bring in a younger, more reliable option.
"That's something they'll have to explore, because if they want to let someone like Alisson go, they'd better have a top-class replacement lined up.
"At the moment, I expect they're more on the side of letting him go, but a lot will depend on how he plays this season and if he proved he can still be at his best.
"But considering his age and injuries, if those become a problem again this season, I can see Liverpool deciding that the time has come for him to move on."
Which clubs are interested in signing Alisson?
Speculation surrounding Alisson's future has emerged once again after he was heavily linked with a move away from Anfield during the summer transfer window.
Liverpool had weighed up the possibility of cashing in on their goalkeeper one year before his contract expires, placing a number of top clubs on high alert.
Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness told Football Insider back in May that Liverpool were prepared to sell Alisson and talks had been held with Juventus ahead of the window.
The Brazil international has long been tipped for a return to Italian football, where he played with Roma before getting his big move to Anfield in 2018.
There is a feeling that all parties were open to parting ways during the summer, but eventually opted against it, and could instead call it quits in the summer of 2027.
