Liverpool set to spend '£250m' in transfer blitz with Hugo Ekitike to 'miss most of next season'

Liverpool are already surprising many with their transfer business so far, and there is more to come at Anfield this summer.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider that Andoni Iraola will not be without funds despite some huge spending on Merseyside in recent windows.

Liverpool do have some huge boots to fill over the summer, however, with Andy Robertson and Ibrahima Konate's exits being confirmed, and Mohamed Salah set to leave at the end of his contract.

The Reds have already seen an £87million package rejected for RB Leipzig's Yan Diomande, having already hijacked Newcastle United's move for Victor Munoz of Osasuna.

It has also been suggested that Iraola could raid the his former club, Bournemouth, for the likes of Eli Kroupi Junior and Alex Scott, but no such moves have been made just yet.

Supporters, understandably, are getting very excited about the potential transfers which could be done, and Borson is expecting a lot more movement at Anfield.

Liverpool to splash north of £250million

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, despite the Reds spending £500million in the last summer window, Borson expects at least half of that figure to be spent by the new manager.

"They're already looking to spend more than I'd imagine they would spend, to be honest with you, I thought this would be a much quieter summer after last season.

"But I guess the injuries have changed things, plus Mohamed Salah leaving and Hugo Ekitike, who will probably miss most of next season. That changes what you need.

"I mean they are going to end up spending £250m minimum, which I'm surprised about.

"Salah was paid an absolute fortune, so that's going to be a nice saving. But they've got to replace him. I don't think the wage bill is going to come down for next season, that's for sure.

"Liverpool are a a very successful club commercially and financially. So there's nothing to worry about.

"But clearly, as with all these teams, there's a limit. You can't just keep spending forever."

Which areas of the pitch must Andoni Iraola address?

With Konate already joining Real Madrid this summer, all eyes will be on the possible vacant centre-back spot in the team ahead of 2026-27.

Some supporters may have forgotten, though, that Jeremy Jacquet is set to arrive from Rennes, having signed with the Reds back in February on a pre-contract.

There is still Giovanni Leoni to return from injury as well, but even so, Nottingham Forest's Murillo and Tottenham Hotspur's Micky van de Ven have been linked.

Recent reports would suggest that the Van de Ven news is a non-runner, however, so Iraola might be adjusting the club's plans now that he's in the dugout.
