Liverpool's plans to make a move for Bournemouth star Rayan could be in jeopardy after his lacklustre showing for Brazil.

Rayan's rapid rise to stardom has seen him become a regular in the Brazil squad over the last 12 months.

The 20-year-old went to the World Cup with his country after registering seven goal contributions in 15 Bournemouth appearances last season.

He has emerged onto the radar of several top clubs as he impresses for the Cherries in the Premier League.

Liverpool are tracking Rayan ahead of a potential big-money move for his services next year, but could be dissuaded by his latest international performance.

The 20-year-old had zero impact on proceedings as Brazil emerged 4-2 victors over Australia on Tuesday as their other star attackers impressed instead.

The Bournemouth winger featured for 88 minutes in their last outing before the international break against Liverpool and failed to particularly impress.

Andoni Iraola will know all about his qualities, with sources exclusively revealing to Football Insider this month that Liverpool are considering smashing their transfer record to sign Rayan in 2027.

They may want to shelve those plans until he has truly proven himself among the elite wingers in European football, particularly after his latest performance.

The 20-year-old only had 17 touches of the ball and misplaced six (50 per cent) of his 12 attempted passes in the game.

He created one chance but also had just one touch in Australia's penalty area, with his one attempted cross failing to meet its target as he lost both of ground duels and won just two of six attempted aerial duels.

It was as lacklustre a performance as they come for the Cherries winger, with the likes of Vinicius Junior and Raphinha outshining him massively before he was taken off on the hour mark.

Iraola has already made his feelings clear about Rayan

Liverpool's potential push to sign Rayan would almost certainly be spearheaded by Iraola after he brought him to English football from Vasco da Gama in January.

The Basque manager immediately got the best out of the Brazilian winger and praised him on several occasions last season as Bournemouth ultimately qualified for the Europa League.

Some particularly high praise came after he scored against Aston Villa in February, as Iraola said: "Rayan is an amazing player. He can go inside and outside when there's space, and he can go one to one against the defender and it is very difficult for the defender. He's finished it really well. He's still a young player who needs to improve some things."
