Arne Slot's future at Liverpool is under the harshest spotlight yet after yet another embarrassing performance on Saturday.

The Reds were thumped 4-0 and dumped out of the FA Cup by Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland scoring a hat-trick.

Liverpool had started well, enjoying chances through Mohamed Salah and Hugo Ekitike before Virgil van Dijk's trip left Nico O'Reilly in a heap in the box.

Haaland put the penalty away and added his second with a header before the break, with Antoine Semenyo adding a third after it. The Norwegian wrapped up the scoring after 57 minutes, netting his third and Man City's fourth.

Slot's position as Liverpool manager is now surely one he will keep for days, rather than months, with the announcement feeling inevitable.

Bookies slash Arne Slot odds

Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness exclusively told Football Insider this week that Liverpool will sack Slot amid claims of a very unhappy camp at Anfield.

The Dutchman is a very unpopular man on Merseyside at the moment, with his team having endured a terrible season.

It has been a dramatic 12 months for the 47-year-old, who marked the end of his first season of Premier League management with the title at the end of last season.

Slot's Liverpool were devastating going forward, superb defensively, and so exciting to watch.

The Reds appear to have lost all of that completely, with Saturday's performance proving just how easy they are to play against now.

While anger in the stands builds against Slot, it is likely starting to mount in the board room as well.

Liverpool now have just the Champions League to play for this season, and it would be difficult to fancy them over two legs with PSG.

One major bookmaker has slashed Slot's odds of being the next Premier League manager to face the sack to 11/4 in light of Saturday's result, while Oliver Glasner continues to lead the way at 7/4.

Dominik Szoboszlai scenes suggest ugly atmosphere

With few Liverpool fans remaining in the away end at the final whistle, footage of Dominik Szoboszlai showed him signalling towards the fans and asking for more from them.

While shocking in itself after delivering such a poor performance, the Hungarian's actions suggest an ugly atmosphere has developed in the changing room.

One in which players have become disillusioned with what and whom they are playing for this season.

It appears likely that Liverpool will wait for the end of the season before sacking Slot, but they risk losing some players with him at this rate.
