Xabi Alonso has once again seen his odds slashed to become the next Liverpool manager.

Arne Slot is under heavy pressure at the Reds after they fell to yet another defeat on Saturday, this time losing to Brighton and Hove Albion 2-1.

The loss has once again heavily damaged their Champions League hopes, with the club sitting fifth by just one point.

Now, one bookmaker believes that Alonso is increasingly likely to take over at 6/4, with Oddschecker on 23 March confirming that these odds have been slashed.

As a result, Football Insider has examined the latest twist in the Liverpool dugout.

Can Arne Slot turn things around at Liverpool?

As it stands, things look bleak at Liverpool.

The club is consistently outplayed on the pitch, and their recent results have allowed the likes of Brentford and Everton to enter the race for the Champions League.

Brighton outplayed Liverpool on Saturday

The performance against Brighton was simply woeful, with the hosts deserving of their victory, and could have easily won by more.

This followed a lacklustre display in the draw against Tottenham, which continues to look an increasingly dire result, especially after their 3-0 battering against Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

While the Reds continue to be solid in the Champions League, the club seems incapable of repeating this in the Premier League, which could easily be Slot’s downfall.

Who else is linked to the Liverpool job?

Former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool expects more from Slot’s team and are starting to question his management.

As a result, Slot is only 11/10 to be in charge of the Reds next season, with a departure looking increasingly likely.

However, if Liverpool opt against bringing Alonso in, current German National team manager Julian Nagelsmann is the second favourite at 10/1.

Following this, Luis Enrique, Jurgen Klopp and Sebastian Hoeness are all yet to be ruled out at 12/1.

The latter coach is currently in charge of VfB Stuttgart, and has heavily impressed since taking charge in 2023.

During his short reign so far, he saved the club from relegation and made them European regulars.

In the 2023-24 campaign, they earned a surprising second-place finish and this was soon followed up by a DFB Pokal Cup in the 2024-25 season.
