Nottingham Forest can offer Federico Chiesa a key role and £100,000-a-week deal - verdict

Federico Chiesa scored for Liverpool on Saturday as he continues to push for a move away this summer.

The 28-year-old scored the Reds' third as they beat Sunderland 4-2 in Nashville, with Kieran Morrison, Enzo Le Fee, Timur Tuterov, Dominik Szoboszlai and Lewis Koumas getting the other goals.

The winger made just 36 appearances across all competitions last season, including just one Premier League start, despite impressing in his cameos.

Chiesa has since publicly spoke of his desire to leave, with Nottingham Forest among the clubs who could benefit from his ability to find the net.

There are potential downsides to signing the Italy international, too, with his injury record remaining a concern.

Liverpool are not expected to demand a huge fee for Chiesa this summer, however, and the signing is surely worth a punt.

Federico Chiesa stars against Sunderland

Chiesa can play across the front line and would be a strong option for any team in the Premier League.

Given just brief appearances off the bench last season, the Italy international often impressed but was neglected by Arne Slot and grew frustrated.

New Liverpool boss Andoni Iraola may well persuade the forward to stay, but it appears likely that he is bound for the exit door this summer.

Victor Munoz has arrived and is set to be joined by another big signing in the winger department, in moves that will only push Chiesa further away.

The 28-year-old impressed off the bench on Saturday, finishing his opportunity well and creating two chances for his teammates.

The winger also made a tackle, a block, won a duel and made a clearance off the line.

Chiesa's come-and-get-me plea

Plenty of the reports linking Chiesa with a move away from Liverpool this summer have tipped him for a return to Serie A.

There, the forward thrived, scoring nine goals in his final season and representing a force for Juventus before injury struck.

But the Premier League can offer wages and fees that Italy simply cannot, with the likes of Nottingham Forest presenting a route to regular football.

Forest are unlikely to baulk at Chiesa's £100,000-a-week-plus salary demands.

An exit will likely have to take place at the City Ground before such a signing can take place, but Oliver Glasner would be gaining a reliable goal-scorer.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport in June, Chiesa said: "I want to play and if I don’t find continuity in the Premier League I’ll need to find it elsewhere.

"This season just gone, I got next to no minutes. I’ll go to the U.S. for pre-season then I’ll talk to the club and Iraola and we’ll see.”
