Tottenham have no plans to sell Micky van de Ven as Liverpool prepare to move for his services next year, sources have told Football Insider.

Van de Ven has impressed for Spurs as a centre-back and left-back in the last few seasons.

They moved to tie the 25-year-old to a new contract until 2031 in August to ward off suitors interested in his services.

Liverpool remain keen on signing Van de Ven in either January or next summer as Andoni Iraola aims to reinforce his backline long-term.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider's Transfer Insider podcast, Tottenham will not entertain interest in Van de Ven in the new year and plan to keep hold of him for several years to come.

Roberto De Zerbi has offered the Dutch star regular starts in his preferred centre-back position this season after naming him as his new club captain before the start of the campaign.

Liverpool to be blocked from moving for Micky Van de Ven

Iraola was forced into signing Ronald Araujo late in the summer window to bolster Liverpool's centre-back ranks.

Van de Ven has also been eyed as a potential left-back solution amid Milos Kerkez's struggles, but Liverpool will struggle to seal his services during this campaign.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: "Tottenham are quite relaxed about this. They tied down Van de Ven to a new contract in August until 2031. So look, Tottenham hold all the aces here, he's been made club captain as well, so I can't imagine they'll be too keen to lose such a key player.

"Tottenham won't be entertaining a sale anytime soon. Top players will always attract interest and have suitors, but he's under a long-term contract at Tottenham and they're planning for life with Mickey van de Ven."

Man United have made Van de Ven their top defensive target

Van de Ven's pace, strength and ability to play across the backline have made him a target for several top clubs across Europe.

Sources have exclusively revealed to Football Insider that Van de Ven is at the top of Michael Carrick's transfer shortlist as he looks to add to his defensive ranks in 2027.

United know they will find a January move hard to sort, but are set to move for his services next summer if nothing changes.
