Tottenham supporters are unlikely to enjoy the constant links between star defender Micky van de Ven and a move to Liverpool.

Football Insider revealed this month that Liverpool could have a £70million bid accepted for the 24-year-old should they target him this summer, with speculation only getting louder in North London.

Van de Ven has quickly become one of the most important players in the squad, but after being sent off against Crystal Palace in his last game, fans are far from happy with the talented Dutchman.

Liverpool will be forging transfer plans ahead of the summer, whether Arne Slot is still in charge or not, and the Reds may need a ready-made replacement for Ibrahima Konate next season.

Liverpool unlikely to go in for Micky van de Ven this summer

Konate faces an uncertain future, while Virgil van Dijk has not been at his best for quite some time, and Giovanni Leoni has yet to return from injury. Even Jarell Quansah is on the list of potential targets.

However, speaking on talkSPORT (10 March), the Daily Mail's Dominic King revealed whether Slot's side might sign Van de Ven this summer, saying, "No. From what I've heard, I don't believe they're in for him.

"I would never say anything definitively about a football transfer because things can change. I would believe that he'd want to come to Liverpool, from what I've heard, but I'm not sure the feeling is totally mutual at this moment in time."

That appears to be a pretty definitive answer, even if King didn't want to give one. It will be music to Spurs fans' ears, but it leaves the question of who Liverpool are going to sign in defence this summer.

Which other defenders could Liverpool sign?

The Reds certainly need to address the centre-back situation this summer, with Slot's side struggling for any real form across the competitions and conceding a lot more goals than expected.

Having already pre-agreed a deal for Jeremy Jacquet, Mick Brown revealed to Football Insider that Liverpool want to sign Nottingham Forest's Murillo, who has emerged as a top target.

Inter Milan's Alessandro Bastoni is also among the names linked with an Anfield move, and any of these would help consolidate the back line ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.

It does not appear that Van de Ven is likely to make the switch to Merseyside, which could be down to his injury issues, which have been there for all to see during his time at Spurs.
