Sources: Liverpool 'keeping tabs' on former star to strengthen their midfield

Liverpool are "keeping tabs" on the progress of their former midfielder Tyler Morton at Lyon, sources have told Football Insider.

The Reds have continued to keep tabs on the 23-year-old's progress after his exit from Anfield in 2025, but they have not made any concrete moves at this stage.

The former England U21 international is one of several midfielders on Liverpool's radar ahead of the January window, as they are keen to add a new number six to their ranks.

However, sources say that Lyon are reluctant to lose Morton in the middle of the season, and would attempt to block a move if possible.

It is currently unclear whether Morton is a top target for Andoni Iraola's side, but he is one of many options who are under consideration.

The youngster made 43 appearances for Lyon in all competitions last term, and chipped in with two goals and three assists.

Iraola is keen to bolster his midfield options during the mid-season window, and that has prompted the recruitment team at Anfield to delve into their list of targets.

The boss is keen to add greater defensive solidity in the middle of the park, and Morton is seen as a player who could potentially provide that.

He has seen his reputation take a significant boost since moving to Ligue 1, but Liverpool have kept their eyes fixed on him the entire time.

Their former academy graduate made 14 appearances for his boyhood club at senior level, but ultimately opted to move away in search of more opportunities.

Lyon splashed out £15million to prise him away from Anfield, and they are not keen on the idea of losing him so soon.

Liverpool are potentially prepared to move to reunite with their former starlet this winter, but Lyon will not make it easy for them.
