Victor Munoz could face extended spell on Liverpool sidelines with 80% duel winner stepping in
Rio Ngumoha was on fire as Liverpool beat Villarreal 4-3 in the Champions League at Anfield on Tuesday.
The Reds had been 2-0 down but came from behind, with the 18-year-old grabbing assists for goals from Ronald Araujo and Alexis Mac Allister.
Florian Wirtz would score the goal that would eventually prove to be the winner, despite a late scare from Tani Oluwaseyi.
Andoni Iraola now faces a serious selection dilemma in both wing positions, with Cody Gakpo also making a strong return from injury on the night.
Victor Munoz has been excellent on the right and was key to victory against Brentford on Saturday, but the form of Ngumoha is proving extremely difficult to ignore.
On the left, Bradley Barcola has begun to prove why Liverpool were willing to spend £123million on him in the summer, but he may now also come under significant pressure for his place in the team.
Rio Ngumoha in sensational Liverpool form
At the age of 18, Liverpool and Iraola are still attempting to protect Ngumoha from overplaying - he played just 74 minutes on Tuesday.
The teenager is making that incredibly hard to do, however, by consistently producing superb performances.
Tuesday's was perhaps his best so far. The England youth international's first assist came via a fantastic cross to the back post for Araujo to head in, yet the second was something else entirely.
Latching onto Mac Allister's pass, Ngumoha effortlessly touched past one defender before bursting into the Villarreal box and getting past another. His pass across the box completed the one-two with Mac Allister, who could not miss.
The teenager was a danger throughout the game. No player on the pitch took more touches in the opposition penalty box than him - 12 - nor did anyone complete more dribbles - a staggering seven.
Ngumoha was fouled once, made three recoveries and won eight of the 10 duels he competed in, a number only bettered by Gakpo.
Ngumoha must start against Brighton
Munoz has done nothing to be dropped, in fact, he would have expected his display against Brentford to see him keep his place against Brighton on Sunday.
Yet Iraola must now take the uncomfortable decision to drop him after the sheer extent of Ngumoha's brilliance on Tuesday.
The Spaniard is in a position that many managers would envy - he has four players in fine form all competing for just two positions.
Iraola must now learn that as the manager of a big club, he must take decisions that will not make everyone happy.
