Napoli are holding talks with Fernando Llorente today as they climb into pole position to sign him ahead of Tottenham and Inter Milan, Football Insider has learned.

An Italian source has told Football Insider that Llorente's representatives are meeting Napoli today to try and reach agreement over a deal.

The Spanish striker is a free agent after cutting his ties with Spurs at the end of last season following a two-year spell in which he scored 13 goals in 66 appearances.

There has been widespread interest from elite clubs in Llorente this summer, with Tottenham offering a one-year deal on reduced terms in a bid to secure an alternative option to Harry Kane and company.

Napoli have moved into pole position ahead of Inter in the race for Llorente's signature and are hopeful of a deal before the Italian window shuts next Monday.

Llorente is tempted by the prospect of a major role at one of the Serie A giants rather than the substitute's role he predominantly held at Tottenham.

In a glittering club career, the former Spain international has netted 173 times in 558 appearances, more than half of which came at hometown club Athletic Bilbao.
