Paul Robinson has revealed that he would “love to see” Gareth Bale make a return to Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs stopper has claimed that a move to bring the Welsh superstar back to north London would “ignite” his former club.

The Express claim Jose Mourinho’s men have opened talks with Real Madrid over a permanent deal for the 30-year-old, and are said to be working around the clock to secure a switch before the upcoming transfer deadline.

And Robinson has spoken with great enthusiasm over the prospect of Bale returning to the side he left in 2013.

“I’d love to see it happen,” he told Football Insider.

“I think if anyone can get the best out of Gareth Bale it’s Jose Mourinho.

“Losing Christian Eriksen, losing that little bit of creativity, that edge he’s brought to the side in the last however many seasons that he’s been there, I think a signing like Gareth Bale would really ignite the place again. It would really give the fans a huge boost.”

Bale has endured an injury-hit campaign in Spain, and has made just 12 appearances in La Liga so far this term, hitting two goals in the process.

Since making the move to the continent, the Welshman has struggled to endear himself to supporters the Spanish capital, despite winning four Champions Leagues during his time with the club. He most recently courted controversy by brandishing a Welsh flag emblazoned with the mantra “Wales. Golf. Madrid. In that order.”, after securing qualification for Euro 2020.
