Darren Bent has been left raving over Everton potentially signing Barcelona defender Jean-Clair Todibo this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, the former England striker believes Carlo Anclotti is throwing his “clout” around to lure top-class players to Goodison Park.

Spanish publication SPORT report that Everton are in negotiations with Barcelona over a deal worth an initial £17.7million (€20million) for the 20-year-old.

Todibo joined German side Schalke on loan back in January and it is said that while the Bundesliga side want to sign him permanently, they cannot afford the €25million purchase clause.

Bent believes that other managers outside the top six might feel they could not sign a player of Todibo’s calibre but that Ancelotti’s reputation sets him apart from his rivals.

Bent told Football Insider: “I love what Ancelotti’s doing, I like what he’s doing in terms of shopping.

“I’m sure a lot of managers, and they’d never admit it publicly, especially at clubs like Everton where they’re seen as maybe not being able to shop in the same bracket as Liverpool, Manchester City, Chelsea, the manager will never really give them a chance.

“It’s nice for Ancelotti to throw his clout about and go: ‘Well hold on, Everton is a massive football club, I’m a world-class manager, got good players here, fantastic fanbase and this is a place players will want to go and play.’

“We know Everton have got deep pockets so it’s nice to see them pushing and having a right go.”

Todibo has played just five times for Barcelona since joining from Toulouse back in January 2019.

He has seven appearances under his belt for Schalke, four of which have come among the starting XI.

In other Everton news, Bent has slaughtered an “X-Factor” player after big developments at Goodison Park.
