Lucas Bergvall is on Aston Villa’s radar ahead of the summer window but Tottenham Hotspur currently have no plans to let him leave.

Bergvall has continued to impress for Tottenham this season despite their struggles at the wrong end of the Premier League table.

The potential relegation from the top flight has seen several clubs register an interest in signing the Swede this summer, with Aston Villa, Chelsea and Liverpool each linked.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Tottenham are confident of keeping Bergvall at the club due to his long-term contract, especially if they survive relegation.

Tottenham’s transfer plans will be dictated by which league they are set to head into next season, but Bergvall could stay with the club in the Championship.

Tottenham have no intention of selling Lucas Bergvall

Bergvall has made 30 appearances for Spurs this season amid injury issues after playing a key role in their Europa League triumph last season.

Tottenham tied him down to a new six-year deal last summer, so will demand a hefty fee for his services that could price those aforementioned clubs out of a move.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “That’ll be key to Bergvall’s future, whether Tottenham stay up in the Premier League, which they’re battling to do.

“I’m sure they’ll have no intention of parting ways with the Sweden international. They see him as a long-term, key player for their future.

“He’s a young player and is under contract until 2031, so Spurs are under no pressure to sell him, especially if they stay up.”

Spurs also remain confident about keeping Archie Gray this summer

Gray and Bergvall are both seen as the future of Tottenham’s midfield, but relegation to the second tier will inevitably raise doubts about those plans.

Bayern Munich and Liverpool are two of the top clubs that have been publicly linked with a move for 20-year-old Gray this summer.

Sources have, however, revealed to Football Insider that Tottenham are confident of keeping Gray even if they are relegated from the Premier League.

The youngster made 47 appearances for Leeds in the second tier during 2023-24, his first season in senior football, and could be open to helping Spurs achieve promotion if the worst happens in the next month.
