Former Everton chief Keith Wyness believes Man City will experience a surge in their international fanbase because of their £10million Netflix deal.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested that City can start to challenge the dominance of Liverpool and Man United internationally.

City announced via their club website on Tuesday (5 March) that a documentary around their treble-winning season will be released on Netflix.

It is understood that they have sold the footage rights for a fee of around £10million.

City previously enjoyed success having aired an 'All or Nothing' documentary series with Amazon Prime in 2018.

Man City fanbase set to boom after documentary announced

Wyness believes the £10million value is not as important as the international attention the documentary will bring to City.

"For Man City, it's not so much the value they will receive from this documentary, it’s more about the ability to push the brand further around the globe," Wyness told Football Insider.

"That's where the true benefit will be for Man City.

"There's obviously a great story to tell about the treble season.

"They've got some great characters in the squad as well, like Grealish, who will obviously feature well on TV

"The value in it for City I think £10million will be appreciated but it’ll be reaching fans overseas which is where the real battle is.

"That is where they are trying to beat Liverpool and Man United."
